Who can do electrical work at my property?

In Ontario, only a Licensed Electrical Contractors is legally authorized to do electrical work in your home. Licensed Electrical Contracting Businesses are bonded and insured, providing you with a peace of mind. General Contractors cannot do electrical work in residences unless they hold an electrical contractor’s license.

What is a Licensed Electrical Contractor and why should I hire one?

Licensed Electrical Contractor are the only businesses, with certain exemptions, in Ontario who are legally authorized to do electrical work in your home or facility.

What are the requirements of a Licensed Electrical Contractors?

They must be able to demonstrate all the following:

1) Carry liability insurance;

2) Have Workplace Safety and Insurance Board coverage;

3) Understand that they must arrange for an electrical notification to ESA;

4) Are qualified to perform electrical work to meet the Ontario Electrical Safety Code;

5) Can show an ECRA/ESA license number.

What if someone is doing electrical work without a contractor's license?

You must immediately call the ESA.

Anyone can contact ESA’s Customer Service Centre (confidentially) at 1-(877) ESA-SAFE (372-7233) if they suspect electrical work being done without a license. ESA receives reports from property owners, contractors, inspectors and others, and looks into everyone. 

How do I track my 200A Service Upgrade with NAEN?

Hydro will get a notification, fill in forms and paid for, scheduled for our team to disconnect the power
